Clayton Kyle has been active as both a venture capitalist and entrepreneur in the Portland area for more than 20 years.
After receiving his undergraduate degree at Princeton and an MBA from Wharton, Clayton spent eight years at Time Warner in New York, part of that time as Controller and Director of Financial Planning at HBO. He came to Maine in 1989 to acquire and turn around a small manufacturing company.
In the mid-nineties, he co-founded North Atlantic Ventures II, an equity investment firm that raised $20 million in private funding for investment in early stage companies. In 1998, Clayton was a founding partner in Hunter Panels, a Maine start up manufacturing company that achieved $70 million in revenues in four years and was later sold to a public company. He has subsequently partnered in the acquisition of several Maine companies. In 2005, he was part of an investment team that purchased the technology and developed the business model for CLYNK, a unique, convenient bottle redemption service located in 48 Hannaford supermarkets across Maine. He has operated as CLYNK’s CEO since 2008; today CLYNK is the largest redemption service in Maine and, along with its partner in Oregon, will be responsible for the collection of more than 100,000,000 containers in 2012.
